Rule #1 about working for yourself: DO NOT HIRE YOUR IMMEDIATE FAMILY!  I preach this all the time but ignored my own advice.  Suffice it to say I am paying for that mistake now.  Fun for the Holidays!

My office is coming together nicely.  Out with the old and in with the new…furniture, decor, people, policies and procedures, infrastructure.  My office manager and staff CPA are meshing well and all that’s left is for me to find the balance and add more business to my new found capacity.

Tax Lesson - Let’s put TAX CUTS in terms everyone can understand.

Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our TAXES, it would go something like this:

The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.
The fifth would pay $1.
The sixth would pay $3.
The seventh would pay $7.
The eighth would pay $12.
The ninth would pay $18.
The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.

So, that’s what they decided to do.

Not since before I lost my first pet have I felt so single handed.  This morning, as is my routine I prepared for the day and hit my BlackBerry to see what happened over night.  Well, no e-mail service.  What? Isn’t a BB more than just a phone?  Yes, but not today.  I felt like someone cut off my right thumb.  At first I suspected the phone.  The BB, as with all cool technology, requires a modicum of patience and a regular hard reset.  So I pulled the battery, re-set then checked my service connections and still no go.  Thanks to Crackberry.com I was able to point the finger (not my thumb) at BB’s email server.  Somewhat of a relief I guess, but when is service coming back?  Dunno, but I hope I can survive until then…

(CFO) - For executives who have been deferring parts of their compensation, 2010 may be the time to rake in their winnings. While it’s rarely advantageous to pay taxes sooner rather than later, the likely expiration of former President Bush’s tax cuts at the end of next year could make doing so a relative bargain.

So are YOU an executive?  Define executive: a person or group of persons having administrative or supervisory authority in an organization.  If you are the President of a closely held business this may be you.  2010 is a decisive year and you should take a look at your options and opportunities as 2011 is generally looked upon as a year of major tax change.

So I am trying to split my time between my twitter (twitter.com/npdcpa) and Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/#/pages/Nicholas-P-DiNatale-CPA/62853216094?ref=ts) pages in the mean time completely neglecting my blog.  I find Twitter close to useless unless your goal is to collect as many spam followers as possible.  Facebook is decent, but the effort to collect “fans” is difficult.  Where does that leave my blog?  Somewhere in the middle.  Going forward I’m going to try to keep this page busy with news and status updates.  As always, your comments and suggestions are welcome.
